He was 80 years old.Steinbrenner, who just celebrated his 80th birthday on July 4, suffered a heart attack and was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa, Florida where he died at about 6:30am.For more than 30 years and through seven World Series championships, Steinbrenner lived up to his billing as “the Boss,” a nickname he earned and clearly enjoyed as he ruled with an iron fist.”He was an incredible and charitable man,” his family said in a statement. “First and foremost he was devoted to his entire family — his beloved wife, Joan; his sisters, Susan Norpell and Judy Kamm, his children, Hank, Jennifer, Jessica and Hal; and all of his grandchildren. He was a visionary and a giant in the world of sports.
